Masterclass for Cellists and Pianists

An opportunity for cellists and pianists to work on Beethoven Cello Sonatas with Robin Michael and Dan Tong. This is part of a two-day study day untitled 'Beethoven Unravelled' being organised by Music writer, broadcaster and lecturer Richard Wigmore at the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building.

The Music Research Seminar series is organised entirely by graduate students (this year, Adam Harper and Emily MacGregor). Seminars take place on Tuesdays at 5.15 pm in the Denis Arnold Hall, Faculty of Music, and feature leading figures as well as younger scholars presenting their research in papers on all kinds of music-related topics. The speakers come from Oxford and many different universities around the world. Presentations are preceded by free refreshments and followed by lively discussion. Students, staff and general public are warmly encouraged to attend.

David Rothenberg (Professor of Music and Philosophy, New Jersey Institute of Technology)
Professor Rothenberg is a musician, composer, author and philosopher-naturalist. He has written extensively on the relationship between music, science and the natural world, including 'Why Birds Sing', 'Thousand Mile Song', and 'Survival of the Beautiful'. He has also released many CDs, including improvised music playing with birds and whales, and his work has been made into a feature length BBC documentary. His current book, 'Bug Music' is due to be released in 2013.
