Jennifer Pike 'Discovers' Mendelssohn

Jennifer PikeJennifer Pike appears today, 24 April 2011, on BBC Radio 3's popular Discovering Music programme, playing Mendelssohn's Vioin Concerto with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The programme can be heard for seven days after broadcast via the BBC iPlayer.

Jennifer, who is a second-year Music undergraduate at Lady Margaret Hall, came to prominence at the age of just 12 when she played the Mendelssohn Concerto to win the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2002. Earlier that same year she had become the youngest major prizewinner in the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition. Before coming to Oxford, Jennifer studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has already won a large number of prizes and honours, including the 2008 South Bank Show/The Times Breakthrough Award, the 2009 London Music Masters award, and between 2008-10 she was a BBC New Generation Artist. She has a three-year record deal with the Chandos label.
