New Award to Support London Stage Project

Michael BurdenDr Michael Burden, Reader in Music at New College, has been awarded a two-part grant from the Eugene Ludwig Family Charitable Trust to continue the development of The London Stage 1800–1900 database, which will be made available through the Oxford Digital Library. He and Jonathan Hicks (DPhil candidate at New College, and Junior Research Fellow in Music at Lincoln College) will be supervising the completion of the period 1805–1810.  The London Stage project has been underway since October 2007, and aims to provide a calendar of stage performances (of operas, ballad operas, pantomimes, plays, etc.) in the London theatre.

The project now has a US link through Professor Vanessa Rogers of Rhodes College, Memphis; under her supervision, the project will support three Student Research Fellowships funded by Rhodes College over this coming summer. The three Fellows will be working in Oxford during July, and then remotely during the coming year.
