New College Choir Messiah

New College sings MessiahThe Choir of New College, under the direction of Professor Edward Higginbottom, toured Handel's Messiah around Europe this Christmas. Between 11 and 20 December they played to packed houses in Oxford, Echternach (Luxembourg), Darmstadt (Germany), Riga (Latvia), and Burgos, Pamplona and Logrono (Spain).

The Choir was joined by the European Union Baroque Orchestra, and soloists Maria Keohane, William Purefoy, Nicholas Mulroy and Jonathan Sells.

The performance on Sunday 13 December at the Trifolion in Echternach was described in the local Luxembourg paper 352 as 'quite simply, stunning'.  The Darmstädter Echo wrote of 'a wonderful performance .. the boy sopranos providing a glittering crown to the overall sound. ... The brilliantly sung "Hallelujah" Chorus ... was greeted by the audience with spontaneous and enthusiastic applause.'

New College Choir has also just recently released a recording of Bach Motets.
