New College recording made CD of the week by BBC Radio 3

As part of its commitment to performance studies within the University, New College Choir has recently issued a recording of motets by Francois Couperin, the leading composer of his generation in France around 1700.  An important feature of the recording is the reconstruction of three substantial motets, which have survived in only incomplete form, missing their string parts.  The reconstruction has been made by Professor Edward Higginbottom, a specialist in French baroque repertory, and also the director of New College Choir.  The release appears on  'Novum', an independent label established to promote the work of New College Choir and musical literature which may have suffered unjust neglect, as indeed is the case with Couperin's vocal music.  The selection of the CD by Radio 3 as 'CD of the week' reflects both the intrinsic interest of the project and the high quality of the singing.
