New College Vespers, 1610-2010

Vespro Claudio Monteverdi's Vespers (Vespro della Beata Vergine) were first published in Venice in 1610. To mark this landmark anniversary, the Choir of New College along with the award-winning early music group Charivari Agréable, directed by Professor Edward Higginbottom, have released a new recording of this extraordinary collection of church music.

Professor Higginbottom has prepared a new version of the Vespers for this recording. The Choir is joined by tenor soloists Nicholas Mulroy, Thomas Hobbs and Thomas Raskin, but the majority of the solos are sung by the boys and men of the Choir.

Read an interview with Edward Hiiginbottom about the recording in the Oxford Times.

This new two-CD set (NCR 1382) is available from all good music shops or online from the choir's website. The recording launches New College's own CD label, Novum.
