Recent Graduate Wins Wigmore Prize
Marcus Farnsworth (baritone) and Elizabeth Burgess (piano, pictured left) are the winners of the 2009 Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation International Song Competition.
Elizabeth (known to all as Libby) was the first ever woman organ scholar at Christ Church, from where she graduated with a first-class degree in Music in 2005. She has recently completed her postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was awarded a distinction for her final recital, performed with the RAM’s Song Circle, and won the accompaniment prizes in both the Major van Someren-Godfrey English Song Competition and the Elena Gerhardt Lieder Competition. She took part in this year's Young Songmakers’ scheme with Graham Johnson and has recently been elected a Samling Scholar for 2010.
Elizabeth and Marcus performed live on BBC Radio 3' s In Tune. Extracts of the winning performance can be seen by clicking here.
