UniQ Summer School

UNIQThis week sixth-form students from schools and colleges around the UK have been at the Faculty of Music taking part in the UniQ Summer School programme. The UniQ scheme offers a series of subject-focused week-long summer schools which provide a taste of life as an undergraduate at the University for students from UK state schools.

Students attending the Music Summer School have heard lectures on Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Elgar and Musical Nationalism, Film Music, Ethnomusicology, and Music and Politics. Following seminars and workshops, they are producing group compositions (see picture, right) and short research projects on music and nationalism.

As part of the free-time activities, last night (20 July) students from the Music programe and other subjects heard Music Faculty alumni Clare Wheeler (violin) and Elizabeth Burgess (piano) perform a range of Romantic music in Christ Church Cathedral.
