Oxford 'University of the Year'

sunday timesOxford University has been placed top of the Sunday Times University League Table and named 'University of the Year'. The ranking is based on a combination of research strength, entry qualifications, degree results, drop-out rate, student satisfaction, employment prospects, student to staff ratio, and a rating by headteachers and academic peers.

The Sunday Times article (13 September 2009) accompanying publication of the table singles out Music for special mention, pointing out in relation to the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise that:

'No university entered more than Oxford’s 2,246 academics for [research] assessment (200 more than Cambridge) with music achieving the greatest proportion — 50% — of world-leading (4*) academics.'

Oxford has now topped all four of the most recent league tables compiled by The Guardian, The Independent, The Times and The Sunday Times. Where individual subject rankings are given, Oxford also occupies the top spot for all university Music departments.
