Dr DUNCAN WILLIAMS, Ba(Hons), PhD, MAES

The IMTO (Information and Music Technology Officer) manages the Faculty recording studio, and is responsible for location recording and audio-visual and computing facilities within the Faculty. He also provides student tuition, relevant academic research support, and training. This includes advice for research into composition and performance technology, signal processing, and statistical analysis. He represents the Faculty's IT interests at University level, provides technical support for the Faculty and advises on purchases of IT, Music Technology and audio equipment.
Duncan holds a PhD in Psychoacoustics from the Institute of Sound Recording, Surrey University, and when not in IMTO-mode, he teaches modules to graduate students on the MSt in Music (Composition pathway) and second year undergraduate students on the BA(hons) in Music.
He is engaged in a three-year post-doctoral project at Wolfson College as a Research MCR investigating the perception of timbre with reference to modern recording techniques, primarily for classical music, and is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society.
