Alumni Profile: Sam Baker

Sam Baker (Pembroke College, 2009)

Since graduating in 2012, I’ve spent over a year working as music teacher, organist, repetiteur, and composer in New Zealand – also performing  in Sydney and Melbourne in Australia during my time out there. On returning to the UK in early 2014, I took an administrative job with Garsington Opera before moving to my current role as a music teacher and boarding house tutor at Taunton Preparatory School.

As well as music teaching and assisting with school boarding, I also teach piano, organ, singing, and accompany the pupils in exams and concerts. Aside from full time school duties, I have a busy freelance performing and accompanying career in and around Somerset and Devon playing for various choral and opera societies. I’m M-D for La Traviata with Bristol Opera-in-a-box early next year, and also M-D for Ruddigore (Somerset Opera). I play for church services and weddings locally too. My trio Stella Maris was formed last year with two sopranos based in Exeter and we’re thrilled to be touring Oxford, Buckinghamshire, and Blenheim Palace for the last week of October.
