A new Festschrift to be published in honour of former lecturer of the Faculty, Harry Johnstone

‘British Music, Musicians, and Institutions, c. 1630-1800’ is a collection of essays written in honour of the distinguished former lecturer of the Faculty, Harry Diack Johnstone (Balliol College, 1957). The book is to be published by Boydell & Brewer in November and is co-edited by two Faculty alumni, Peter Lynan (St Edmund Hall, 1989) and Julian Rushton (Magdalen, 1964). The collection features several essays contributed by former Faculty members, both students and staff. Boydell & Brewer describe the book as “building upon the developing picture of the importance of British music, musicians and institutions during the eighteenth century, this book investigates the themes of composition, performance (amateur and professional) and music-printing, within the wider context of social, religious and secular institutions.”
