Explore Ensemble awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation’s Ensemble Prize

We’re excited to announce that Explore Ensemble, co-founded and directed by Oxford DPhil composer Nicholas Moroz, has been selected as one of two recipients for the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation’s Ensemble Prize for 2021.

‘Outstanding technical precision, innovative programmes, and ability to connect with young composers’ recognised by the judges.

The prize for outstanding young ensembles, announced on Thursday 11 November 2021, comes with a cash award of 75,000 euros per ensemble, and will contribute towards Explore Ensemble’s artistic and organisational development. The other Ensemble Prize in 2021 is awarded to Krakow-based ensemble Spółdzielnia Muzyczna. In 2021, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supported the contemporary music world with a total of 5.6 million euros. Welcoming the news of the prize, Explore Ensemble’s artistic director Nicholas Moroz recognised it as both a confirmation and a help to overcome the challenges of the present time:

“It’s a great privilege to receive this support and recognition from the Ernst von Siemens Foundation in 2021, particularly against the backdrop of our recent experiences in the pandemic. As for many others, we emerge from the lockdowns and uncertainty with a renewed sense of perspective, purpose, and a drive to explore what really matters in life and in our work. It’s an honour that we now have this possibility, thanks to the award, to invest in our own sustainable development, which will ensure that Explore Ensemble’s hunger for discovery, creation, and sharing with others remains at the core of who we are.”
