EMPRES Award 2020: Collaboration, Collectivity and the Digital Arts

The Faculty of Music is delighted to announce the EMPRES Award 2020 – a call for works that focus on (safe) collaboration, networking and virtual collectivity during the Covid-19 pandemic.

At a time when we are all having to find new ways to interact socially, this call invites creative collaborative responses to this unique situation.

Deadline for submissions: Monday 15 June

There are two broad categories for submission:

Experimental Electronic Music
Electroacoustic music, algorithmic composition; Instrumental composition/performance with electronics; modular synthesis; turntablism; electronica.

Sound Art
(Filmed) installation work; sound and environment; film; improvisation; spoken word.

Works in either category can be created with any collaborator(s) of your choice (composer/ musician/ visual artist / filmmaker/ writer etc.)  The response should be a recorded and/or filmed performance of acoustic or electronic music; sound art; visual art; computer art; and related disciplines.

The works should be deliverable within the current UK government guidelines around social distancing (e.g. a digital experience that can be hosted and documented online; a web-based installation).

Works should be no longer than 8 minutes in duration.  Any longer-form works must be submitted as an excerpt/demonstration.
