Try the Javanese gamelan, an Indonesian percussion orchestra of bronze gongs and metallophones in a hands-on workshop. You will learn to play a traditional Javanese piece, and discover the families of instruments within the gamelan and its cultural context.

Using examples from the collection, Andy Lamb talks about what we understand about the nature of musical instruments, their classification, and how we use them to understand historical music performance.
