Orchard Opera Festival

11am: Piano and narrator – Poulenc’s Babar the Elephant and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. Actor Florence Roberts and pianist Guy Murgatroyd bring two enchanting stories to life.
1pm: Piano recital – Pianist Guy Murgatroyd performs a selection of 19th and 20th century piano masterpieces, from Beethoven to Kapustin.
4pm: Soprano and piano – Prokofiev – Five poems by Anna Akhmatova set to music and Vierne – Ten poems of Paul Verlaine set to music. Two great poets inspire two great composers. The art song of Vierne and Prokofiev is steeped in the turbulent emotion and opaque imagery of the poets who inspired their compositions.
7.30pm: Baritone and piano – Vaughan Williams’s Songs of Travel. Baritone Alex Robarts and pianist Guy Murgatroyd take us on a journey through the English countryside.
