The Faculty is delighted to announce that Dr Peter Collyer has been appointed as the new Director of Musical Performance and Performance Studies. Peter will work with students on the Faculty’s examined performance modules as well as coordinating performance opportunities for students across the Faculty.
Peter joins us from his position of Head of Music at Morley College London. He is an eminent viola player and academic specializing in historical performance. His wide-ranging professional career includes work with John Eliot Gardiner on his award-winning recordings of the complete Beethoven Symphonies and Mozart Operas and many of Britain’s leading period practice orchestras such as AAM, the English Concert and La Serenissima. Peter was director of Performance at Southampton University, and has taught and examined performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trinity Laban and Bristol University.
Peter will be in post for one year until June 2021. He takes over from current Director of Performance Elizabeth Kenny. Liz is now Dean of Studies at the Royal Academy of Music and will continue her career as an internationally-renowned lutenist. Durring her time in post, Liz showed an unwavering dedication to student performance, working with students on their examined performance work and creating opportunities for them to perform with world-leading artists, including harpist Gabriella Dall’Olio and tenor James Gilchrist.
