Five stars for Contrapunctus disc

Contrapunctus’s disc In the midst of life, directed by Professor Owen Rees, is receiving multiple accolades from critics. It has spent 9 weeks in the specialist classical charts and been Gramophone Editor’s Choice, Sunday Times Album of the Week, and BBC Radio 3 CD Review Disc of the Week, as well as the Choral and Song Choice in BBC Music Magazine. The album contains motets on the theme of mortality from the Baldwin Tudor partbooks. It includes works by Sheppard, Byrd, Parsons, Mundy, Taverner, Gerarde and Tallis, with Contrapunctus’s own reconstructions of the missing tenor parts, undertaken in association with the AHRC-funded Tudor Partbooks project.
