Library Mac lab

The Multimedia Resource Centre has been developed to support students in their studies.

It is in effect 11 stand-alone Apple iMac based composition and research workstations, with Sibelius 7 notation software, the Pro Tools 10 audio production platform and Max/MSP 6 audio and video modular programming language installed as standard, as well as specialist software for video editing, noise-removal, sound design, graphics editing, audio digitisation and transcription.

They also all have internet access and the Microsoft office software.

The suite is based in the music faculty library, so is open access while the library is open.  Printing is available on all the machines via the library PCAS system. If you are unsure as to how to find the MRC, please ask at reception or in the music library. If you are an academic wanting to book the room for a seminar, please ask the Administrative Assistant.

The MRC is also designed as a seminar room so may be booked at certain times during term for classes.  A timetable of bookings will be available on the MRC entrance door

As the new iMac models do not have a CD drive built in there are two plug-in USB ‘superdrives’ (CD and DVD RW) available from the library desk.  Simply plug them into a spare USB slot on the rear of the iMac to play CDs or DVDs. Also available in the room are two USB MIDI keyboards.

If you have a specific request for technical tuition, please contact the Studio Manager.

It is recommended that users of the MRC have their own USB memory stick to save work to, as any documents left on the computers will be wiped on a regular basis.
