OUMS has announced the new Executive Committee for 2021-22. As the musical hub of Oxford, the Executive Committee plays a hugely important role in maintaining and developing student music-making in the University, responsible primarily for overseeing the activities of all OUMS ensembles, organising auditions at the start of each term and promoting various musical events and opportunities happening across Oxford.
The society was founded in 1872, making it one of Oxford’s oldest and most prestigious societies. It was founded to promote the appreciation and performance of music within the University and has been a central focus for Oxford’s rich musical life, for students, academics, and members of the Oxford public.

Executive Committee 2021-22
President – Reuben Tendler
I am a 2nd year Musician at Pembroke, playing the horn and trombone in a number of ensembles. As this year’s President, my main aim is to get back to holding in-person rehearsals and concerts! Making sure this is done safely and without compromising full accessibility is my top priority. 2022 also marks 150 of OUMS, so I am hoping that we can celebrate our anniversary with a gala concert and special events.
Vice-President – Holly Hart
Hi! I’m Holly and I’m a second-year music student at Lincoln College. I have played the harp in OUO since Hilary Last year, which sadly means I only got to play in one concert – although the fact that it was Mahler 9 definitely makes me feel better about that. I’m looking forward to helping to reintroduce live music this year as OUMS vice-president, and making sure that all the OUMS ensembles have the support they need. Looking forward to *hopefully* meeting you all at rehearsals and concerts in the coming terms!
Secretary – Laura Kirkham
Hi! I’m Laura and I’m a first year undergraduate reading Music at Univ. My first study instrument is the flute, but I also play the violin and piano. I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Secretary this year and, along with the other members of the OUMS Executive Committee, supporting the resumption of music making in Oxford as restrictions are lifted. As Secretary, I am responsible for sending out emails for the society and I’ll be involved in putting together the newsletter, so make sure to let me know if there is anything you would like to feature in it!
Treasurer – Jay Chitnavis
Hi! I’m Jay and I’m in my second year studying Music at New College. As Treasurer, my goal for the upcoming year is to facilitate as many events as possible, no matter how big or small. I’m excited about being a part of OUMS and I think that this could be our year to reinvigorate the Oxford music scene back to its former lively self. If the past year has taught us anything, it’s to live life and make the most of all the opportunities available to us, and what better and more musical place for that than Oxford!
Communications Officer – Jude Neanor
Hi everyone, I’m Jude and I’m the Communications Officer for OUMS this year! I am a first-year music student at St Peter’s College, and I play the piano (although I compose more than I perform). As we (hopefully) begin to hold more in-person concerts and rehearsals, I will be making sure everyone is kept up-to-date with what’s going on. Make sure you follow OUMS on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to stay updated.
Access and Outreach Officer – Trina Banerjee
Hello, everyone! I am Trina Banerjee, a second-year musician from Somerville College. I am a Hindustani classical singer from Singapore. As access and outreach officer, I hope to build better relationships between our partner schools and university students so that we can have a successful mentoring scheme in the near future. Also, taking inspiration from Somerville Music Society, I would love to incorporate some repertoire to expand our current canon so that we may be more inclusive about different kinds of music and various cultures.
