Congratulations to Faculty member, Dr Jonathan Williams, whose world première recording of Rameau’s opera Anacréon with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment goes on sale this month. Released by Signum Records, and part of his Oxford-based Rameau Project, the CD is the first studio recording of a Rameau opera made UK for 30 years. As such it is of great personal significance to Jonathan. ‘I first began my work on Anacréon during my M.Phil. at Oxford over 25 years ago, so to be able now to share this wonderful music so widely is tremendously satisfying. I am enormously grateful to all those members of the university who have supported my work on Rameau these past three years’. With further support, Jonathan is planning to continue the activities of the Rameau Project, which so far have included conferences, performances, publications and broadcasts.
