Robert Quinney blogs about his new edition of Hubert Parry’s Songs of Farewell

Robert Quinney, Associate Professor in Music and Organist and Tutorial Fellow at New College, has recently been celebrating the release of his new edition of Hubert Parry’s Songs of Farewell, and has blogged about his experience here.

His edition of these well-known and well-loved pieces has been published with Oxford University Press and makes uses of the autograph manuscripts held in Oxford University’s own Bodleian Libraries as well as early printed editions. As Robert says in his recent blog reflecting on his experience, the Bodleian manuscripts provide a fascinatingly fresh view on Parry’s compositional process. As Organist at New College, Robert provides a link between these most recent editions and some very early performances of the motets that make up the Songs of Farewell, which were given by New College Choir under the direction of Hugh Percy Allen.
