Moushumi Bhowmik, singer, writer and music researcher from Kolkata (Calcutta) joins us next week for two events as part of our ongoing series featuring music and ideas from South Asia.
On Tuesday 16 October at 5.15pm Moushumi presents Migration, Memory and Music: Field Recordings from Bengal and the Diaspora as part of the graduate Research Colloquia. Presenting field recordings, she will discuss the framentary and conflicted identity of Bengal, an ‘amorphous map’.
On the Wednesday, Moushumi presents Songs Old and New from Bengal with her with her long-time colleague, British composer and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Weeks. They will perform Bengali folk music drawn from her collaborative research project, The Travelling Archive, complete with English explanations
We hope you will join us for these exciting events.
