Welcome to New Students and Staff!

Happy new academic year! The Faculty is delighted to welcome all new first-year undergraduate, MSt and DPhil students, as well as all the returning ‘old hands’. We look forward to meeting you during the coming week.

Also joining the Faculty this year are a number of new members of staff:

Professor Samantha Dieckmann is the new Associate Professor in the Faculty of Music and Music Fellow and Tutor, Somerville College. She is a music educationist whose work crosses over into community music and applied ethnomusicology. Before joining the Faculty, she held a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Melbourne with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music and the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions.

Dr Mark Doffman is well known to the Faculty of Music and is joining us again this academic year as Departmental Lecturer to cover ethnomusicology teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and supervise students in the fields of ethnomusicology and popular music studies.

Professor Steven Grahl is the new Associate Professor in the Faculty of Music, Organist at Christ Church Cathedral, and Tutor in Music at Christ Church. He is also Conductor of Schola Cantorum of Oxford. He served as Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral from 2014–18, where he was responsible for training the Cathedral Choir, and for the re-pitching of the Hill Organ.

Ms Elizabeth Kenny, one of Europe’s leading lute players, joins the Faculty this month as Director of Performance. Before joining the Faculty of Music, she was most recently Professor of Musical Performance at the University of Southampton. She is also Professor at the Royal Academy of Music. We are also delighted to welcome a number of new members of the administrative team and researchers:

Ms Jasmin Irscheid is the new Apprentice Academic Administration and Events Assistant working in the Academic Office.

Ms Alice Little is Research Associate in the Bate Collection working on Anthony Baines’ archive and also Junior Research Fellow at Corpus Christi College.

Mr Bob Maskell is the new Faculty receptionist.

Mrs Jade Murphy is the new Academic Administrator who joins us from the Royal Academy of Music and the University of Bath.
