Free entry, retiring collection for GOSH. You can find out more via the Magdalen College Choir website.
As part of the celebrations of the new Eule Orgelbau instrument in the college chapel, Alexander Pott, Assistant Organist and Tutor to the Choristers at Magdalen, will perform the complete organ works of J. S. Bach over the course of the academic year 2023-24. Most of the recital series will be given at 12.00pm on Saturdays across Michaelmas and Trinity terms, plus two special concerts in Holy Week.
Recitals will last between 40 and 50 minutes and are free to attend, with a retiring collection for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, which supports care and research for children with illnesses. The programme brochure that will be on sale at the recital series will also raise money for this cause.
This project also acts as the culmination of a project that Alexander Pott undertook from 2017-20, when he received the W. T. Best Scholarship from the Worshipful Company of Musicians. This scholarship was awarded to support the proposal to learn the complete organ works of Bach, and provided lessons with some of Europe’s best Bach experts, including Hans Fagius, Bine Bryndorf, Pieter van Dijk, Johannes Geffert, Robert Quinney, and Margaret Phillips. With the new Eule Organ finished earlier this year, this is a chance to hear the finest music ever written for the organ, played on the newest and most exciting organ in Oxford.
