My research interests are 20th- and 21st-century British music, musical exoticism/Orientalism, and cross-, trans-, and inter-cultural compositions and collaborations.
My project, supervised by Professor Jason Stanyek, explores why, how, and in what circumstances British composers have represented Japan in their compositions from the late nineteenth century to the present, and delineates the transition and transformation of such representations.
