Professor Wendy Gadian is a musical director, musical arranger, and Head of
Undergraduate Musical Theatre training at the Royal Central School of Speech &
Drama. At Central Wendy created the Andrew Lloyd Webber Associate Musical
Director Fellowship (funded by the ALW Foundation) which supports and mentors
early career Musical Directors. She is also a founding member of Ladies of the Stave
which provides training and networking opportunities for female identifying musical
directors in the theatre industry.

The Musical Theatre Workshops are open to all, there is no fee and no previous
musical theatre experience is required. We’re particularly keen to encourage anyone
from groups currently underrepresented in the musical theatre industry to attend.
Directors, producers, and other creatives who wish to develop a better
understanding of the music department’s role in a production are also welcome to
join us.

WORKSHOP FOR MUSICIANS

Join Wendy for a relaxed and inclusive session looking at careers for musicians in
theatre. Learn about working in a pit band, the skills a musical director should
develop, rehearsal and leadership approaches, and utilising professional practice in
student productions. This workshop will offer practical coaching, is for everyone from
musicians with no previous musical theatre experience through to students
considering applying for an MA in Musical Direction. Participants are welcome to
bring excerpts from musicals they may be working on.

LUNCH Drop-in

Join Wendy for an informal lunch in the St Catherine's College JCR (Bernard Sunley
Building). No need to sign up. This is a chance to chat to Wendy and other like-
minded students about anything you wish to, from student theatre to future careers.
Please bring your own food as only snacks and drinks will be provided.

WORKSHOP FOR PERFORMERS AND MUSICAL DIRECTORS

Join us for a relaxed and supportive workshop looking at vocal coaching, acting
through song, and audition preparation.

Participating performers will be asked to prepare a short song excerpt and will
receive coaching from Wendy in front of the group. Participants will be given places
on a first come first served basis, so sign-up now! This opportunity is open to anyone
who wants to work on their vocal performance and will be of particular value to those
considering applying for a musical theatre performance MA. Piano accompaniment
will be provided.

If you would like to learn from Wendy but don’t feel ready to participate in the
workshop, please do sign up to observe. Musical Directors are encouraged to sign
up as observers and/or accompanists for the chance to learn from Wendy’s
extensive experience in vocal coaching and audition technique.
