A recital of English Art Song given by the winner of last year's Mendl-Schrama Prize, Archie Inns and pianist, Alfred Fardell. The duo will perform 'Magic Lantern Tales' by Cheryl Frances-Hoad, a cycle which sets poetry by Ian McMillan exploring themes of memory, war, and loss.
They will then be joined by a string quartet to perform Ivor Gurney's 'Ludlow and Teme'. The impact that fighting in the First World War had on Gurney is well documented, and this poignant song cycle, published in 1921, bears the scars of his wartime trauma.
