Opera: Poulenc's La Voix Humaine AND Schoenberg's Erwartung

Tickets £14.50 and £7.50 (student); £8 and £5 for early bird tickets, can be bought via the Orchestra VOX website.

For the 8th successive year, Orchestra VOX presents its annual opera, featuring young professional singers from London, and an orchestra of student musicians from Oxford. This highly professional event is highly anticipated - and almost always sold out! This year features an evening of the two 1-act operas, both riveting psychological thrillers for soprano and orchestra. In Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine (‘The Human Voice’), a woman struggles to cope with her life after being abandoned by her lover. She seeks truth, and a reason to live.  The opera, based on Cocteau’s play of the same name, gives life to an internal dialogue of a woman not seen in previous operas. In Schoenberg’s Erwartung, on the other hand, a woman wanders alone in a forest: she encounters fear, doubt, and moments of courage.

These opera will be brought to life by award-winning West End director Jonny Danciger, and internationally recognised conductor Hannah von Wiehler. La Voix Humaine stars St John’s alumna Sofia Kirwan-Baez, and Erwartung stars Laura Coppinger, also an Oxford alumna.
