This is the second workshop in the Chinese Opera Music Workshop series, moving onto the most popular and widely performed Chinese Opera form, Jingju (Beijing/Peking Opera)! In this workshop, you will learn how to play Jingju music, including introductions to numerical notation (jianpu 简谱), Chinese concepts of ornamentation, rhythm, and playing techniques, and more!
Feel free to bring any instrument you feel comfortable playing -- scores in Western musical notation and Chinese numerical notation will be provided. Plucked and bowed are traditional in Beijing Opera music, but any and all instruments are encouraged. Percussionists are also needed, with some unique Chinese cymbals being provided. The workshop will be led in English.
This workshop will be held in Seminar Room 10.204, Faculty of Music, Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, between 14:00 and 16:00 on Friday 5th December.
