Sing Inside's Musical Leadership Training is designed to support volunteers who are interested in leading all or part of a workshop session inside a prison in the future. Our musical leaders may not organise the prison visit themselves, or directly hold the relationship with the prison, but they are equipped to turn up on the day and do a good job, in line with our pedagogical approach. The session will cover elements such as how to plan the music for a workshop, effective warm up techniques and how teach songs effectively and enjoyably, in line with our best practice. The session will also cover practical elements of being in a prison including security protocols and advice for effective communication with residents in the prison context. As there are limited places for this training session, please use the 'Any further comments' box to indicate if you are a Music Faculty student, and if you intend to use Sing Inside as a placement for the Community Music and Music Education course.
About Sing Inside
Sing Inside deliver group singing workshops in prisons across England and Wales, engaging volunteers from local community organisations and universities to form a choir alongside prison residents and staff. We work to build self-confidence and self-worth through shared musical and vocal skills, breaking down stereotypical views about prisons and building strong communities through group singing.
