Composer-conductor Richard Baker is a leading figure in British contemporary music and Research Fellow/Professor of Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. While having made a name as one of the foremost conductors of contemporary music of his generation, Richard's own work has been commissioned recently by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Welsh new-music ensemble UPROAR, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Richard's talk will, amongst other things, explore his use of speech transcription as compositional technique and works from his recent album The Tyranny of Fun on NMC Records.
