My research focuses upon the colonial history of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the role which its music exams played in the development of music education infrastructures across the British Empire in the early twentieth century. I am particularly interested in the rise of colonial music exams which rivaled the ABRSM and the political contexts which contributed to their growth or failure.
