Schwarzman Centre Music Studios: Booking Policy

This policy ensures that our music studios remain safe, organized, and accessible. By booking and using the studios, students agree to the following guidelines: 

1. Booking Eligibility & Process.

- The Studios are bookable between 8am and 10pm.

- If your booking will take you past 8pm, you will need to apply for out-of-hours access and use the appropriate out-of-hours exit/entrance.

- The studios are only to be used in relation to portfolio work and postgraduate research.

-  Only undergraduates opting for the relevant modules of Composition, Recording and Producing Music, Free Improv, Critical Listening, and Performance will have access.

- Please arrange extended access for postgraduate research directly with the Studio Manager.

- Bookings must be made in advance via the online booking system:

- Students may book up to 4 x 2 hours sessions per week, to ensure fair access for all. 

- Back-to-back bookings are not allowed unless pre-approved by the Studio Manager. 

- Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance to allow others to use the space. 

- Failure to attend a booking without cancellation or good reason will result in a ban.

2. Studio Use & Safety.

- Students must complete a studio induction before using the studios for the first time. 

- Eating is strictly prohibited in the studios. Drinks are only permitted if using bottles with a sports cap. Do not rest drinks on top of electrical equipment.

- Students must use equipment responsibly and report any damage or technical issues immediately, using the Studio Fault Reporting Form.

- Personal belongings should not obstruct walkways or emergency exits. 

3. Cleanliness & Equipment Care.

- Studios and related performance spaces must be left clean and tidy after use: 

- All cables should be neatly coiled and stored properly/returned to the studio office.

- All microphone stands must be retracted and stored appropriately.

- Instruments and equipment must be returned to their designated storage. 

- Rubbish must be disposed of appropriately.

- We operate a “leave it as you would want to find it” policy.

4. Security & Access

- Access is granted only during designated hours. Unauthorized access is prohibited. 

- No externals guests to be brought into these spaces without prior consent of the Studio Manager.

- Students must not share access cards. 

- Doors must be closed and secured when leaving the studio. 

- Any security concerns should be reported to staff immediately.  Alternatively, if no staff are available, please call:

5. Consequences of Policy Violations

Failure to follow this policy may result in: 

- A temporary or permanent ban from booking the studios. 

- Disciplinary action in accordance with academic regulations. 

- Charges for damages caused by negligence or misuse. 

By booking and using the studios, students agree to adhere to this policy to ensure a safe and professional working environment for all.
