Area of proposed thesis
My research explores the relationship between music, landscape, folklore, and the cultural production of regional identity, with a particular focus on Gothic heritage and performance cultures in Whitby and the North Yorkshire coast. Combining ethnographic and archival research with interdisciplinary perspectives from cultural studies, social geography, folklore, and heritage studies, I examine how historical narratives, physical environments, and contemporary musical and subcultural practices shape regional identity in the present.
