Denis Arnold Hall
The Denis Arnold Hall is the largest room in the Faculty and is used for lectures, research seminars, workshops, recitals and conferences. It has a state-of-the-art A/V system with touch screen control. It also has audio and video ties to the recording studio. Instruments usually available in the Hall include a Steinway model A grand piano (recently refurbished) and a selection of large percussion.
Lecture rooms
Lecture rooms are used for teaching throughout term-time during the day, and some rooms are used for rehearsals and other functions in the evenings. Out of term, the rooms are sometimes booked for summer schools and conferences. Nevertheless, there are still many opportunities for students to book lecture rooms for course-related purposes. All the rooms are fitted with audio-visual equipment, and all have at least one piano. Rooms used most commonly in term are: Lecture Room A (LRA), Lecture Room B (LRB), the Committee Room and the Seminar Room.
Practice rooms
There are nine soundproofed and air-conditioned practice pods available for current students of the Faculty on a first-come, first-served basis. Each room has either a Yamaha U1Q upright piano or a Yamaha C1 5’3” grand.
We also have a larger purpose ensemble room, which is again acoustically isolated, and air conditioned and features a Steinway model B grand piano. The ensemble room can be booked for practices when not in use for teaching or events purposes.
All users must abide by the terms and conditions of use and guidelines for use, which can be seen in full below:
The practice rooms may be used by alumni of the Faculty or students who are not studying at the Faculty of Music during weekday evenings (6pm-10.30pm)and weekends (9am-10.30pm), on payment of a fee. Details of this fee and how to pay can be found here. It is not possible for this facility to be used by University staff.
