Câtana (1984) for nine musicians; First sign a sharp white moon, as if the cause of snow (1968-75) for solo alto flute; alongside new works by Oxford student composers.

It is a huge pleasure to welcome one of Britain's greatest living composers, Michael Finnissy, to celebrate his work in the lead-up to the composer's eightieth birthday year. In his 6pm <speaks> talk, Michael discusses the aesthetic and technical ideas that helped form his work, and introduces a key early work, 'Two Cut-ups of Three Fantasias by Alonso Mudarra' (1966-67) played by Thomas Bruges (solo guitar). The following concert features 'Câtana', based on Romanian folk music alongside pieces by Oxford student composers chosen for this concert.

Rémy Ballot and OUO Solo Players - Bruckner: String Quintet, Mathilde Kralik: Nonet

Following their successful chamber ensemble programme of Mozart and Strauss last January, violinist and conductor Rémy Ballot is joined by a chamber ensemble drawn from members of OUO to give a concert that presents Bruckner’s resplendent String Quintet alongside the work of his student, Mathilde Kralik. Kralik’s Nonet is scored for the rare combination of clarinet, bassoon, two horns, string quartet and piano.

A Celebration with Shesh Besh
